Built: 1925 Original Design: Willie Tucker Redesigned in late-1930's after sale to New York State. Description: This golf course was originally built in 1925 for the private Clearview Golf and Yacht Club, which then sold the land to New York State in 1931. Between 1935-40, the State apparently redesigned the entire course. Then they redesigned again in 1957, when the course had to sell off the eastern-most piece of its land to build the Clearview Expressway. The result is a simple golf course, very back-and-forth, with a nice view of the bridge..course we have today. Which is, for the most part, a pretty good city course. The terrain is relatively flat, but there are some rolling hills which make it interesting. The fairways are pretty straight out and fairly open, and some are lined by large trees and light forest. Greens are accessible, and are generally small and can be tricky (and bumpy). American Golf Corporation has run the place since 1983, and they do their best to strive for the most rounds in the country every year. Of course, that means if you've got something to do in five hours after tee off, reschedule. Yet, overall, the course is a fun round for the beginner and intermediate golfer. Signature Hole: No. 17, 395-yard Par 4. A pretty straightforward par-4, but from the tee and most of the fairway, you have a beautiful view of the Throgs Neck Bridge and Long Island Sound. City golf at its most scenic. Reader Comments: This has to be the busiest golf course in America ... It’s packed even in the winter ... Sometimes impossibly slow play, but the views of the Throgs Neck Bridge are terrific.
