GOLF COURSE

Description: Global Golf Inc. has committed more than $3 million into refurbishing this entire facility, and it has surely paid off.  With very few trees and a lot of water coming into play, the locals like to call this track a seaside, links-style course, which might be pushing it.  Saying that about a course on the south shore of Suffolk County can presume a lot that Bergen Point, for all it's good qualities, can't provide.

What is true is that being as close to the water as it is, the wind always plays a factor.  With some longish par-4's and a couple tricky par-3's, when the wind is up this can be a tough go-around.  Water does come into play on 10 holes, as well, so that is something that you must keep an eye on.

Signature Hole: No. 18, 450-yard Par 4.  A long, dogleg-left, this hole can be a tough get even for the longest of hitters.  When the wind is up and in your face, even low handicappers have difficulty in reaching the green in regulation.  Water comes into play all along the hole on the left side, and will make a quick penalty of anything hooked.  The green is what some like to call "amphitheater," but is not nearly that dramatic.  A home hole that is significantly tougher than the rest of the course, which is unfortunately not that odd, gives a feeling of inconsistency -- but this home hole is a good one nonetheless.

Reader Comments: New management company has really done a fabulous job at this facility ...The 2 dogs have done a great job of keeping the geese away... Conditions are much improved and now it makes for a wonderful, enjoyable  golf outing ... Lots of fun and a good challenge for most golfers. 

Directions: Distance from Manhattan approximately 41 miles
LIE (east) to Exit 49S.  Follow Rte. 110 (south) to Montauk Hwy. (approx. 8 miles), go left.
Proceed on Montauk Hwy. (east) approx. 7 mi. to Bergen Ave. (go right) to club ahead on right.
