Description: Formally North Hills Country Club, this course became a municipal course in the early-1960s and has been the workhorse course for the golf-crazed surrounding area.  The new management company, Douglaston LLC, has put more than a million dollars into renovations, and the course is starting to show it with some better conditions and more favorable conditions.

With wide, rolling fairways and hilly terrain, the course provides some interesting shots for all levels of golfers.  The greens are moderately small, and the bunkering is sparse.  There are some pretty decent holes out there, and is a good place to learn and work on your game.  It is a par 67, which includes seven par-3s, and they can sometimes cause a bit of a backup.  The course is also situated at the highest point in the Borough of Queens, which provides some picturesque views of the Manhattan skyline.

Signature Hole: No. 18, 533-yard Par 5.  The longest hole on the course, this par-5 requires the tee shot to be in the middle of the fairway in order to have a good look at a layup or a go at the green.  The second shot, if a layup, must be positioned on the right side of the fairway for a favorable approach to a pretty flat green.  A good scoring opportunity to finish the round.

Reader Comments: Really an enjoyable course, rewarding when played properly and punishing on the errant shots ... Small difficult greens ... The course has never been in better shape ... Haven't been here in a while and it was surprising how good it was.

Directions: Distance from Manhattan approximately 17 miles.
LIE (east) to exit 30, Douglaston Pkwy.  Stay on service road to Marathon Pkwy., go right about 1/2 mile to course.
