This was the Middle Bay Country Club, a private facility, that was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy.  It is no longer private, it is now open for public play.

GOLF COURSE

Description: The terrain is relatively flat which is typical of the seaside courses on the south shore of Long Island.  However, golfers have to contend with the serious challenge of wind and water on eight picturesque holes. In 1988, David Postelwait added mounds and sand traps to give the course a more modern look and also increase its level of difficulty.

Middle Bay hosted the 1974 Met Open.

Signature Hole: is the beautiful 8th hole, a short par four that curves left around the bay that gives the course its name. The left side of the fairway is flanked by a long waste bunker at waters edge, while the right side is lined with mounds and bunkers. The putting green is closely guarded by five additional bunkers… two long sand traps across the front and three smaller ones at the sides.

Directions: Distance from Manhattan approximately 23 miles.  
LIE east to Exit 30 (Cross Island Pkwy).  Proceed south for approx. 7-8 miles to Southern State Pkwy. east to Exit 20S (Grand Ave.).  Proceed south on Grand Ave. approx. 3 1/2 miles to Atlantic Ave. and go right.  Follow for 1/2 mile to Waukena Ave. and turn left.  Proceed another 1/2 mile to Skillman Ave., turn left to club.
