GOLF COURSE
Description: Forest Park, located in Queens near the Brooklyn boarder, is just seven miles from Manhattan and is as accessible as it is enjoyable. Built on moderately hilly terrain, the course is really known for its tight, tree-lined fairways and small, slightly elevated greens. Some call it a sporty, shotmaker’s course, which might be pushing it. It's not very long and has some holes where your options are limited, so if that's a shotmakers course, so be it. There are also three water holes that add to its aesthic value, and to the challenge proposed by the average city hacker. The Forest Golf Corporation has committed time, money and effort in order to make a number of major improvements at this facility. They’ve added a new clubhouse and a full service golf shop, a new irrigation system, new cart paths, remodeled tee boxes and have lengthened the course to over 6,000 yards with three par-5 holes. The work Steven Kay did in 1995 has made the course more than just a run-down, city dirt track, and as a result, play here has become much more enjoyable.
Reader Comments: Always a good NYC golf course. Staff couldn’t be more accommodating. The fairways and greens in nice shape. Recent upgrades are really beginning to show benefits. Course in good condition. If you’re a city golfer do yourself a favor and head out here, you won't be disappointed.
