Lake Isle Park Golf Course - Public 18-HOLE COURSE

Description: This course was originally designed by Emmet as a private country club called Vernon Hills. That existed until 1979, when the Town of Eastchester bought it and transformed it into a self-sustaining recreational facility open to the public. Set on 116 acres of lush, rolling, southern-Westchester hills, the course is short by today's standards, as is the case with most existing Emmet designs from this era. Although it's not quiet as creative or interesting as most of his courses, there is still a feel of the famous architect's work here, most notably in the small, well-placed bunkers and the menacing green complexes. Let's call it a Emmet course that has been watered down by time and public play -- which is to say that it's still worth a look. Signature Hole: No. 16, 390-yard par 4. This is a sharp dogleg left that does seem a bit outdated, with the turn coming less than a driver's distance away for most average players. Yet, the second shot is uphill to a well-guarded green, which makes the hole both a challenge and a delight. Reader Comments: It's a fun course with some quirky little holes ... Always in pretty decent shape ... A nice walk, and an enjoyable day.
Directions: Distance from Manhattan approximately 18 miles. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS COURSE? |
